Assessment: Issues and Answers

One of the most controversial topics in education today is that of
assessment. Often there is a great deal of confusion about the area
because of (1) an insufficient understanding of the term or (2) multiple
definitions causing a failure to communicate. Dr. Lieberman offers a
definition of assessment that is based on the multiple perspectives of
administration, external evaluators, teachers and those often being
assessed, the students. He discusses authentic assessment, performance
assessment, portfolio assessment, criterion and norm referenced testing
