Master of Education in Instructional Media - Library Information

The Instructional Media Education program embodies the requirements for a master of education and the courses specified by the Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation and the Oklahoma State Department of Education.  Candidates in the program prepare to receive the PK-12 school library media specialist certification. While many of the courses are the same as those taken by future public, academic, and special librarians, the focus of this program  is the school library media specialist.

UCO’s Instructional Media Education program serves a unique need. All course assignments and projects emphasize the school setting and the use of instructional technology. Our students represent a broad geographic clientele, and UCO is preparing a large portion of Oklahoma’s school library media specialist personnel for this high demand, low supply, advanced certification area. Much of the coursework for the program is currently available either totally or partially at a distance, and our goal is to have the program available totally at a distance in the near future.

Course prefixes are identified as IME, and the program is referred to as Instructional Media Education.

The IME program’s Applied Technology option is currently unavailable.  When available, it provides in-depth training in instructional technology. Education professionals wanting to work as technology coordinators and teachers will find this program helpful.
