Professional Teacher Education

Welcome to the Department of Professional Teacher Education (PTE) in the College of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Central Oklahoma. The Department continues its historical commitment to high quality preparation of professional educators at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. We provide professional education courses and field experience opportunities for the preparation of PreK through 12th grade teachers at the undergraduate level. We provide secondary educators the opportunity for professional growth through the Masters of Education in Secondary Education.

The mission of the Department is twofold:

  1. to provide undergraduate academic opportunities and experiences which will assist the various undergraduate teacher education programs in developing knowledge, skills/competencies, and dispositions in order to become reflective, responsive, and resourceful professionals and
  2. to provide scholarly graduate opportunities and experiences for individuals to improve the instructional knowledge and/or specific techniques and skills which will be required in professional work as reflective, responsive, and resourceful scholars through the Masters of Education in Secondary Education.

The Department has eleven (11) full-time faculty members. The faculty all hold doctorates in Education and/or Philosophy in the areas of curriculum and instruction, educational psychology, applied behavioral studies, foundations of education, and educational leadership and policy studies.
